Hello, I am Expert Clinical Psychologist Sara Sinem Sozan Akan.

I completed my undergraduate education at Bilkent University, Department of Psychology. During my undergraduate years, I volunteered in various non-governmental organizations, especially the Federation of Schizophrenia Associations, and had the opportunity to work with individuals who needed support in the field of mental health. These experiences played an important role in the development of my professional perspective.

I completed my first master's degree at Bilkent University. During this period, I worked as a research assistant in the Brain Development and Psychosis Laboratory and conducted academic studies on the emergence processes of psychopathology and the role of genetic risk factors in the development of psychosis. I completed my master's thesis titled "The Effect of Covid-19 Infection on Brain Development: Psychosis Proneness and Working Memory".I reinforced my expertise in the clinical field with the second master's degree I completed at Ankara Social Sciences University, Social Sciences Institute, Department of Clinical Psychology. By combining the theoretical knowledge I have acquired during this process with clinical practices, I continue to offer my clients a scientific, ethical and trust-based psychotherapy approach.

My Working Areas

Provides psychotherapy services for adults; I especially work on anxiety disorders, anxiety, attachment problems, relationship problems, interpersonal relationships, stress management and adaptation processes to life events. I plan a personalized therapy process by evaluating each individual's life story and needs from a holistic perspective.

My Therapy ApproachesI base my psychotherapy studies on scientifically based approaches and use different therapy methods according to the needs of my clients. He particularly uses Schema Therapy and Short-Term Solution Focused Therapy approaches; I care about creating a therapy environment based on trust, understanding and ethical values. My goal is to help my clients make sense of the difficulties they experience, discover their inner resources, and support their psychological well-being.

My Academic Studies

Throughout my academic studies, I took part in research on the developmental processes of psychopathology, brain development and psychosis. I worked as a research assistant at Bilkent University Brain Development and Psychosis Laboratory and conducted scientific research on genetic risk factors and working memory in the development of psychosis. These studies contributed to me developing a holistic view of psychological problems from both a scientific and clinical perspective.
